My wife and I just got back from a long weekend (Friday to Sunday) at the All Things Go music festival in Columbia, Maryland at Merriweather Post Pavilion. 11 hours a day of bands and artists ranging from folk to country, to pop rock, and soul, rap, and R&B. We had a fantastic time and heard a TON of fantastic music we hadn't been exposed to before; I’m finding it more fun to discover new bands at a festival or concert and then dig more into their catalog on Spotify afterwards, rather than the other way around, for whatever reason. At any rate, our only hotel option was a budget one, and that was what you’d expect…bare bones room, so-so (or worse) breakfast; the venue is quite good in terms of its layout…ample room, plenty of restroom capacity, good signage, abundant food stands (though the food itself unfortunately was little better than the hotel…and because of the tight schedule, going out wasn’t an option, so we packed snacks).
The lineup was superb…they really improved on diversity since our last time at this festival, we saw artists of all kinds of ethnicities. My only gripe was that there’s an hour and a half break towards the end, from 8pm to 9:30 when the last artist/band takes the stage, and that slot goes until 11pm, which is just too late for this elder millennial. If I don’t take a walk, I’m starting to fade by 9. Maybe move up the start time to 11am, and end at 10pm, would be a welcome change. They also have drones that zoom around above the audience and above the stage, and they stream the video to the large screens on either side of the state, which makes for a fun experience. Overall, fantastic experience!
